A made-up word for a real workshop
Singulosity isn't a word. That's the point — it's a name for a place where the things haven't been made yet either.
Everything here starts as somebody’s photograph and ends as an object that did not previously exist. There is no warehouse of finished goods waiting for a buyer. There is a shelf of blank materials, a workbench, and a queue.
Who Dax is
Dax is the shop cat, and by long-standing arrangement the one who lets you in. She is a calico, which turns out to be the whole idea in fur: no two calico cats have ever had the same markings, because the pattern is set by which of two chromosomes switches off in which patch of skin, early and at random. Every one of them is the only one there has ever been.
That is precisely what we are selling. So she got the job, and the hat.
Why nothing is in stock
We buy the material for your piece after you order it. That sounds inefficient, and for a shop selling one thing it would be — but we make forty-odd different things across nine materials, and guessing which ones would sell would mean a shelf full of the wrong ones and none of the right ones.
The practical consequence is honest delivery dates. If we already have what your piece needs, it goes out the next working day. If we don’t, it takes two or three while we get it. Your basket tells you which before you pay, because we check with our suppliers rather than guessing.
Where something only comes in packs, the spares go on the shelf and get used by whoever orders next. Nothing is thrown away, and nothing is bought twice.
The Singular Number
Every piece we make is given a number — SGL-00001 onwards — printed on a card that ships inside the box. It is not a serial number for warranty purposes. It is simply a record that this exact object was made once, for you, and that nothing else will ever carry it.
It is the part of the whole operation we are fondest of.
What we will and won’t take on
We are honest about what suits what. Steel tags get lettering and line work rather than photographs, because a photograph on a 25 mm tag is a grey smudge and we would rather say so than sell you one. Cork loses fine detail, so the cork range is deliberately bold. Cinnamon leaves are a different size every time, so the design sits well inside the edges.
Each product only offers the treatments that genuinely work on it. If you cannot pick something, it is because it would have disappointed you.
Your photographs
We keep the photograph you upload only as long as we need it: to make your piece, and for a short window afterwards in case something arrives damaged and needs remaking. After that it is deleted. If you try a preview and never order, it goes within three days.
They are never used for marketing, never shown to anyone else, and never used to train anything.
Made in Britain
All of it, by hand, one at a time, and posted from here. We deliver to the UK only for now — the postage arithmetic and the customs paperwork for a workshop this size are not worth getting wrong.
